Role Description
We are looking for an Electrical Harness leader who can play a key role in the development of our battery’s low voltage architecture. You will be part of a rapidly growing team responsible for leading the definition of harness architecture, schematics, component selection, PCBA and sensor interfaces, as well as working with vendors and in-house test teams for validation testing. This role will also be a people manager and responsible for managing, coaching and hiring/growing this function.
The candidate shall have had exposure to a broad range of technical challenges and methods in the context of product development, including sealed component selection, EMI mitigation, controller/device functions, DFM/DFA considerations. Cross-team collaboration throughout the product development organization is a critical part of this role, so systems-level thinking and multidisciplinary engineering are key traits of a successful candidate.
Relocation assistance is available.
What you'll do:
- Manage, coach and hire engineers in order to meet deliverables for multiple generations of long duration battery products
- Work cross-functionally with Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, and Compliance engineers to define harness requirements, component selection, design and support in sourcing compliant materials/components, bringing up and testing the various LV harness products.
- Create and maintain 2D electrical single and multi-line system and harness-level schematics, review/create harness assembly drawings
- Perform should-cost analysis/modelling to lower harness cost in order to support overall pack cost targets.
- Define electrical ICDs (interface control document) between PCBA controllers and devices (sensors, actuators, and other controllers)
- Collaborate closely with the wire harness MCAD team to package the various harness assemblies in consideration of Poka-Yoke, DFM/DFA
- Hands on support of system level bring-up and validation, 8D problem solving, and supplier management.
- Communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions effectively to team members and management
What you'll bring:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- 7+ years experience in relevant high-volume product development (experience in energy storage, automotive and robotics is a plus)
- Hands-on experience designing and building electro-mechanical systems and harnesses as well as expertise in creating wiring electrical schematics
- Expertise with PLM systems such as 3DX and Arena, and Harness design software such as Zuken E3, Catia Electrical or NX.
- Strong knowledge of component rating (voltage, current, temperature, IP etc.) in context of Compliance (UL and NEC).
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and familiarity with mechanical engineering fundamentals in the context of wire harness design.
- Bonus: direct PCBA & electronic circuitry design experience highly desired
