About the role
Gridmatic Inc. is a high-growth startup with offices in the Bay Area and Houston, dedicated to accelerating the clean energy transition. We leverage deep expertise in data, machine learning, and energy markets to drive innovation in the power sector. We are a startup that has multiple years of profitability without raising venture capital.
Our Houston-based Retail team is focused on delivering exceptional service and a uniquely data-driven, tech-forward offering to commercial customers across the ERCOT and PJM markets.
At Gridmatic, we foster a workplace culture rooted in teamwork, continuous learning, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion. We move fast, solve problems with agility, and are both environmentally and data-driven. With a growth-oriented, academic mindset, we hold integrity and excellence as equal pillars of our success.
About this Role:

This role is critical to ensuring the seamless execution of key operational functions including transactions, billing, and customer support.
The ideal candidate will have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment. You’ll work cross-functionally to drive accuracy, efficiency, and compliance across the retail energy and customer lifecycle, while delivering exceptional service to both customers and broker partners.
This is a high-impact role with broad exposure across the business, ideal for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of operations, data, and strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Transactions
- Process enrollment, reject, disconnect, and reconnect transactions across ERCOT and
PJM
- Ensure all commercial customers are enrolled accurately and on schedule
- Manage transaction exceptions and troubleshoot issues as they arise
2. Customer Service
- Perform call quality audits to ensure quality and consistency
- Support the customer support team with questions and maintain the customer care knowledge database
- Respond to customer inquiries and issues with clarity, professionalism, and urgency
- Implement systems and processes that enhance customer satisfaction and retention
- Ensure seamless coordination between operations, billing, and support teams
3. Billing
- Oversee the timely and accurate generation of customer invoices
- Monitor and resolve billing exceptions and discrepancies
- Partner with internal teams to improve billing accuracy and automation
4. Reporting
- Translate complex data into actionable insights for cross-functional teams
- Support business decisions with clear, concise reports and visualizations
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in data analytics, operations, commissions, or regulatory roles, ideally within the energy or utilities sector.
- Proven ability to analyze complex problems and present data-driven recommendations.
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and communication skills—able to distill technical information into clear, actionable insights.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Knowledge of U.S. power markets, including ERCOT and PJM, is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and market rules across ERCOT, PJM, FERC, and state/utility commissions, including experience with filings and audits, is a nice to have.
- Experience with billing systems such as Vertexone and data tools, SQL, Python, and visualization platforms like Power BI or Tableau is a plus.
