About the role
Join our fast-paced and passionate team as Manager of Electrical Engineering. As we scale, you will be instrumental in building our electrical engineering foundation from the ground up. This is a dynamic, hands-on role for a self-starter who thrives in a fluid startup environment. You'll have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, work closely with leadership, and develop and implement electrical engineering practices that support our mission and growth.
Your key responsibilities are as follows:
- Recruit, develop, and manage a team of electrical engineers.
- Contribute to the design, integration, verification, and transition to production of complex laser and photonic systems.
- Create and maintain company-wide electrical engineering processes, standards, and tools.
- Be responsible for the execution of electrical engineering projects across the company, from requirements development and system architecture through design, integration, verification, validation, qualification, and production.
- Lead team in developing electrical architecture and design of complex laser, photonic, and electro-optical systems.
- As a member of the cross-functional leadership team, be responsible for planning and execution of company projects on schedule and to budget.
- Partner closely with Optical, Mechanical, Software, and Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system-level integration.
Requirements
- This position requires access to export-controlled information. Employment is contingent upon the applicant being a U.S. person as defined by 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3).
Experience:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of relevant experience (including pursuit of relevant higher education), ideally within a startup or technology company.
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Proven record of building and leading engineering teams successfully executing multiple, parallel, complex electrical engineering projects through development, qualification, fielding, and maintenance cycles.
- Proficient with Altium Designer for schematic capture, PCB design, layout, and electrical design documentation.
- Experience designing and debugging analog, digital, power, and mixed-signal electronics for complex electro-optical systems.
- Experience with PCB design, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, shielding, and EMI/EMC considerations.
- Oversee the electrical architecture of rack systems housing sensitive fiber-coupled photonic components and associated control electronics.
- Drive the electrical design strategy for laser sources, optical engines, temperature control systems, power distribution, monitoring, and control systems.
- Develop robust electrical interfaces between laser, photonic, mechanical, and software subsystems.
- Establish rigorous design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) standards for low-to-mid volume, high-complexity builds and prepare products for future scaling.
- Lead electrical design reviews, design verification, qualification, and failure analysis activities.
- Partner with manufacturing and operations teams to develop test fixtures, production test strategies, and electrical manufacturing processes.
- Partner with Optical, Mechanical, and Software teams to ensure seamless hardware-software integration.
- Establish and maintain engineering documentation, including schematics, PCB layouts, electrical interface control documents, bills of materials, test procedures, and design verification plans.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of electrical and system-level issues throughout development, production, and field deployment.
