Ready to start a career where your engineering skills can make a real difference?
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Facade Engineer to join Jensen Hughes across the UK and Ireland and become part of our 2,000+ global employees working together to advance the science of safety every day.
Please apply only to your preferred location. If you are open to more than one location, we will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.
Please note: to be considered for this role, you must have the right to work in the UK or Ireland.
Why join Jensen Hughes and grow your career?
Your career can go further than you think. 74% of our current Directors and Technical Directors in the UK & Ireland started their careers with us as graduates.
Be part of a leading fire consultancy. We have offices across Belgium, Finland, Italy, Denmark and the UK & Ireland. Our reputation for innovative, design-focused solutions has made us the consultant of choice for many of Europe’s leading property clients.
Learn from experienced engineers. As a Graduate Façade Engineer, you will be an integral part of a dynamic team, working alongside experienced Engineers to develop your knowledge and experience across façade engineering and external wall fire consultancy. You will gain structured exposure to façade systems, external wall fire performance and building envelope design, while developing core engineering skills across structural, thermal and fire performance disciplines.
With support from senior engineers, you will contribute to technical project delivery while developing the judgement, competence and professional behaviours needed to progress within either the façade design or external wall consultancy pathway.
Build your career in a supportive environment. You’ll have the opportunity to develop your career within a supportive and diverse team where we strive to do the right thing for our people, clients and communities.
Take responsibility early. You will be given early responsibility and the opportunity to progress rapidly. Jensen Hughes encourages all Engineers to work towards chartered status, providing help and support throughout the process.
What will you be working on?
As a Graduate Facade Engineer, you’ll work on a variety of exciting projects.
Your work will include:
- Support the review of architectural drawings, specifications, and technical information relating to façade and external wall systems.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports, including external wall fire assessment reports, façade engineering notes, and supporting appendices.
- Support external wall fire safety assessments, including PAS 9980–led appraisals and related desktop studies.
- Participate in site inspections and intrusive surveys to establish external wall and façade build-ups, materials, fixings, and fire stopping provisions.
- Assist with thermal engineering tasks, including thermal bridging reviews, U-value assessments, condensation risk inputs, and interpretation of modelling outputs under supervision.
- Assist with structural engineering tasks related to façade systems, including basic load paths, fixings concepts, and interpretation of structural calculations prepared by senior engineers.
- Support the coordination and review of test evidence, certifications, and product data relevant to façade and external wall performance.
- Assist senior engineers with coordination between internal disciplines and external stakeholders.
- Attend site visits, design meetings, and client meetings as required, under supervision.
- Maintain accurate records, site notes, and project documentation in accordance with internal procedures.
- Actively participate in training, mentoring, and professional development activities.
- Work in accordance with Jensen Hughes quality, safety, and governance procedures at all times.
During the first 12–24 months, we expect successful candidates to grow into the role by developing the following skills and competencies:
- Develop a sound understanding of façade systems, materials, and construction methods.
- Build familiarity with external wall fire safety principles, relevant legislation, and guidance.
- Gain practical site experience through inspections and surveys.
- Develop core skills in technical report writing and structured engineering reasoning.
- Build foundational understanding of thermal and structural performance as applied to façade systems.
- Demonstrate increasing independence in technical tasks under supervision.
- Progress towards professional accreditation and longer-term chartership pathways.
