Job Summary

Reliable technology helps every part of Delta Dental do its best work. The Junior DevOps Engineer supports the applications our teams depend on and contributes to the safe, consistent delivery of software across the organization. This role brings together application support, release management, monitoring, automation, and hands-on technology growth while working alongside experienced engineers.

Success in the role comes from thoughtful troubleshooting, clear communication, careful documentation, dependable follow-through, and a genuine interest in learning how technology works together.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Application Support and Incident Response

  • Monitor incoming support tickets and system alerts, troubleshoot issues, document findings, and coordinate the appropriate next steps.
  • Support the applications used across Delta Dental and help move issues toward timely, reliable resolution.
  • Contribute to incident triage and root-cause analysis by gathering information, testing potential causes, and completing assigned follow-up work.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule after completing the appropriate training and onboarding.

Release Management and Deployment Support

  • Assist with software releases and deployments using Azure DevOps and established release-management practices.
  • Confirm that required approvals, testing, implementation steps, and supporting documentation are complete before assigned deployment work begins.
  • Monitor assigned deployments, communicate status, and help address or escalate unexpected results.

Monitoring and Automation

  • Use monitoring and alerting tools to identify problems and support reliable application performance.
  • Write or update scripts and automations that reduce repetitive work and improve consistency.
  • Help improve monitoring, alerting, scheduling, and operational processes as technical knowledge grows.

Cloud, Platform, and Infrastructure Support

  • Build experience with cloud services, APIs and integrations, servers, job scheduling, Infrastructure as Code, and platform maintenance.
  • Support approved upgrades, migrations, application changes, and maintenance activities with guidance from experienced team members.

Security, Documentation, and Collaboration

  • Follow established security, change-management, confidentiality, and information-handling requirements.
  • Maintain clear runbooks, knowledge articles, ticket notes, and deployment records.
  • Partner with colleagues across DevOps, development, product, security, network, data, project, and support teams.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Foundational knowledge of information technology, software development, systems, networking, databases, APIs, cloud concepts, or a related technical area.
  • Interest in troubleshooting applications and understanding how technology works together.
  • Ability to investigate problems methodically, document findings, and recognize when assistance or escalation is needed.
  • Clear communication, thoughtful documentation, attention to detail, and dependable follow-through.
  • Ability to learn new tools, ask thoughtful questions, apply feedback, and contribute as part of a team.
  • A service-oriented approach to supporting applications and internal partners.

Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Development, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience, preferred.
  • One to three years of relevant experience preferred. Technical support, help desk, application support, internships, academic work, personal projects, certifications, and other hands-on technical experience may be considered.
  • Experience with a ticketing system, monitoring tools, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Azure DevOps, software deployments, platform upgrades, migrations, scripting, automation, or cloud technology is helpful.
  • Familiarity with GCP, AWS, or Azure is helpful but not required.

In addition to salary, Delta Dental of New Jersey’s offerings may also include, for eligible employees, discretionary and formulaic incentive awards. Available offerings may vary by geographic location, job level, skills, experience, qualifications, education and date of hire.

New Jersey Pay Range

$70,000—$80,000 USD
