About the role

Who is Quantium?

Quantium is a world leader in data science and artificial intelligence. Established in Australia in 2002, Quantium is a global team of more than 1,200 people across 14 locations with a unique blend of capabilities across product and consulting services to help businesses unlock value from data and analytics. Quantium partners with the world's largest corporations to forge a better, more intelligent world.

We're recruiting a Software Engineer to help scale our Scam, Fraud & Identity business. Over the last three years we’ve built a real-time API that uses telco intelligence to help banks and other enterprises detect scams, prevent fraud and verify identity. This role is an opportunity to join a cross-functional product team who is committed and empowered to solve customer problems.

Your role will be to help operate and build out our API technology stack. Our environment provides continuous and real-time delivery of telco intelligence to ensure our customers can take preventative action before money is lost.

You’ll collaborate with product management, customer success, data engineering, data science and UX design to ensure our solutions are effectively preventing financial crime. We are currently scaling our protection to new customers and working to continuously uplift our capability to adapt to ever-changing scammer behaviour.

How will you make an impact?

  • API Development: Build and maintain commercial-grade APIs that are scalable, have high availability and low-latency.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive automation across infrastructure and application delivery to reduce manual effort and improve operational efficiency, including through Infrastructure as Code and CI / CD pipelines.
  • Release new product capability: Work closely within a cross-functional team to align backend solutions with product goals and technical requirements.
  • Build Collaboratively: Contribute actively to design decisions, engineering standards, and technical direction across the platform. This will include writing maintainable, well-documented code and adhering to coding best practices.

The superpowers you’ll be bringing to the team:

  • Experience in infrastructure, reliability, platform engineering or DevOps
  • Experience building, operating and troubleshooting business-critical production software systems
  • Proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js
  • Shell scripting skills, including automation of operational and deployment workflows
  • Experience working with relational databases and SQL, ideally PostgreSQL
  • Strong problem-solving and production troubleshooting skills
  • The ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical people
  • The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a cross-functional team

Nice to Have:

  • Experience building and operating containerised applications using Docker and Kubernetes or OpenShift
  • Experience with CI and deployment tooling such as Helm and Argo CD
  • Experience with REST APIs
  • Understanding of security principles, identity and access management, secrets management, compliance requirements, and platform security controls.

Remember – you might not tick all the boxes, but don’t let that from stopping you applying. We’re more interested in how you work, your ability to solve problems and think big.

What could your Quantium Experience look like?

Working at Quantium will allow you to challenge your imagination. You will get to solve complex problems using rigor, precision and by asking great questions – but it also means you can think big, outside the box and push your problem-solving skills to the max.

By joining the Quantium team, you’ll get to:

  • Forge your path: So many of our team have moved around different teams or offices. You’ll be in the driver’s seat, and we empower you to make your career your own.
  • Find your kind: Embrace diversity and connect with your tribe (think foodies, dog lovers, readers, or runners).
  • Make an impact: Leave your mark. Your contributions resonate, regardless of your role or rank.

But wait, there’s more!

We’ve got some pretty sweet perks:

  • Flexible work arrangements: Achieve work life balance at your own pace with hybrid and flexible work arrangements.
  • Continuous learning: Our vision is empowering analytics talent to thrive. The Analytics Community fosters the development of individuals, thought leadership and technical excellence at Quantium through building strong connections, fostering collaboration, and co-creation of best practice.
  • Remote working: Embrace the opportunity to work outside of your assigned home location for up to 30 days every year.
