About the role
About the Role
Imagine this. You are building and improving the simulation tools that help our engineers understand how advanced warhead designs perform against complex targets before physical testing takes place. As a Junior Terminal Ballistics Simulation Engineer, you will join our Kinetics Team in Madrid and contribute directly to the development, validation and improvement of simulation models used to evaluate terminal ballistic performance against hardened structures.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone at the beginning of their career who wants to build strong expertise in computational mechanics and terminal ballistics while working on real defense systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gradually taking ownership of simulation activities and turning complex physical problems into reliable engineering models.
At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our innovative technologies are designed to meet the unique demands of modern defense operations, delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness. Destinus partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide to provide advanced solutions for mission-critical operations, enabling a new era of efficiency and technological superiority. Join us in shaping the future of defense with groundbreaking aerospace innovations.
Requirements
What You'll Do
- Develop, maintain and continuously improve terminal ballistic simulation models focused on warhead effects against hardened structures.
- Build, run, validate and optimize computational models using engineering software such as NX, IMPETUS or similar CAE tools.
- Work closely with engineers within the Kinetics Team to translate design requirements and physical scenarios into accurate computational models.
- Analyze simulation results, identify trends and contribute to improving model accuracy, robustness and computational efficiency.
- Compare simulation predictions with available analytical, experimental or test data to support model validation.
- Document simulation methodologies, assumptions, results and conclusions to ensure clear technical traceability.
- Support engineering investigations and design decisions through simulation and data-driven analysis.
- Contribute ideas to improve simulation workflows, methodologies and engineering processes.
What You'll Need
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Academic or practical experience in computational mechanics, impact mechanics, terminal ballistics, penetration mechanics or related areas.
- Experience with finite element analysis and computational simulation through academic projects, research or professional experience.
- Knowledge of NX, IMPETUS or similar nonlinear explicit simulation software is highly desirable.
- Good understanding of solid mechanics, dynamic loading and material behavior.
- Ability to interpret simulation results and connect computational outputs with real physical behavior.
- Programming or scripting experience for simulation automation or data processing is a plus.
- Strong analytical thinking and a hands-on approach to solving engineering problems.
- Fluent in English both speaking and writing.
Who You Are
You are curious about how advanced engineering problems are solved through simulation and enjoy transforming complex physics into reliable computational models. You take ownership of your work, enjoy learning from experienced engineers and are motivated by seeing your analyses contribute to real products. You thrive in a collaborative environment where innovation moves quickly, and you are excited by the opportunity to work on cutting-edge aerospace and defense technologies while continuously developing your technical expertise.
