Senior Software Engineer, Consumer Apps

Most engineering roles own one area. On the Consumer Apps team, you’ll make an impact across every surface of the Roblox app. We build the shared platform that Roblox's user interface runs on, including the component library, server-driven UI, the core app frame and navigation, and the frameworks underneath them all. When we get it right, people feel it every time they open the app, and every product team ships faster. Recently, we shipped app-wide themes, including an anniversary Classic theme and a Halloween theme, that changed how Roblox looks and feels across every surface at once.

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thinks beyond the usual playbook: someone who questions how things are done, works with AI agents as a natural part of how they build, and moves fast with good judgment about what matters to the people using our product.

You Will

• Make an impact across every surface of the app, building the frameworks, APIs, and systems that product teams across Roblox build on, and shipping cross-app capabilities, like app-wide theming, that change the whole app at once
• Build and evolve the core systems beneath the UI, such as navigation, routing, state management, and data flow, so features load quickly and behave consistently
• Drive app performance, transition smoothness, and layout stability across phones, tablets, and desktop, using traces and telemetry to set measurable quality bars
• Roll out platform changes safely at scale, using feature flags, staged rollouts, and side-by-side validation of old and new implementations, with fast rollback when needed
• Drive adoption of the platform across Roblox by partnering with product, design, and feature engineering teams to guide them onto our frameworks and components, and turning their feedback into a better platform
• Use AI agents and automation to move faster, and help shape how our team and our partner teams build with them
• Raise the quality bar through thoughtful code review, strong test coverage, and clear documentation, and mentor other engineers

You Have

• 4+ years of professional experience building and shipping client applications, ideally on mobile (iOS, Android) or desktop, with a strong foundation in application architecture
• Hands-on experience with React or React Native, with enough depth to reason about how components, state, and rendering behave, and the curiosity to pick up frameworks and tools that are new to you
• Experience designing shared frameworks, UI platforms, or core libraries that other engineers build on
• Strong debugging and profiling skills, with experience diagnosing client performance issues such as slow startup, visual stutter, and memory pressure across screen sizes and form factors
• Comfort working in a large, evolving codebase, including migrating legacy code incrementally using feature flags and staged rollouts
• An agentic mindset and fluency with AI coding tools: you look for ways to automate, delegate, and structure work so that both people and agents can do it well
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to align multiple teams around a technical plan

Bonus Points

• Experience with Luau or Lua
• Experience with React Navigation or comparable routing libraries
• Experience with native mobile development on iOS or Android
• Experience with server-driven UI or dynamic UI delivery systems
• Experience building cross-platform applications that run on mobile, desktop, and console
• Experience supporting other engineers in adopting a shared platform, through documentation, migration guides, or direct developer support

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits as described on this page.

Annual Salary Range

$196,750—$243,290 USD

Roles that are based in an office are onsite Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, with optional presence on Monday and Friday (unless otherwise noted).
