About the role
At H1, we believe access to the best healthcare information is a basic human right. Our mission is to provide a platform that can optimally inform every doctor interaction globally. This promotes health equity and builds needed trust in healthcare systems. To accomplish this our teams harness the power of data and AI-technology to unlock groundbreaking medical insights and convert those insights into action that result in optimal patient outcomes and accelerates an equitable and inclusive drug development lifecycle. Visit h1.com to learn more about us.
As part of H1’s hiring process, all candidates are required to participate in an in-person final interview. Depending on your location, this may require travel.
The Product team at H1 works at the intersection of healthcare, data, and AI. We partner closely with customers, engineering teams, and business stakeholders to solve complex problems for some of the world's leading life sciences organizations.
WHAT YOU'LL DO AT H1
We’re looking for a Lead Product Designer to own design end to end on high-impact initiatives across the H1 platform. H1 is a fast-moving company where priorities evolve quickly and design has a direct line to the business. You’ll take projects from early discovery through to shipped, polished solutions, working independently while keeping the Design Director informed on direction, risks, and priorities. Your focus areas will be set based on company priorities, so you’ll ramp up quickly on new problem spaces and deliver with momentum.
This is an individual contributor role with real leadership scope: you’ll own the design solutions for your projects, work within the overall design direction, represent design with leadership, and contribute to how the team works. As the team grows, there’s a natural path into people leadership for someone who wants it.
You will:
- Lead design projects from problem definition through research, concept, prototyping, delivery, and post-launch iteration
- Move quickly from ambiguity to a clear direction, making sound decisions with incomplete information and refining as you learn
- Take complex, data-heavy workflows and make them clear, fast, and intuitive
- Identify where AI can meaningfully improve a user’s workflow, and design those experiences thoughtfully (including trust, transparency, and handling of errors)
- Present work, rationale, and tradeoffs to senior leadership and turn feedback into clear next steps
- Partner closely with product managers, engineers, and domain experts to scope and ship
- Run or guide user research and usability testing, and use the findings to shape decisions
- Maintain and evolve our design system
- Raise the design bar through critique, informal mentoring, and sharing best practices
- Flag risks, dependencies, and timelines early, and manage multiple priorities as they shift
ABOUT YOU
You are naturally curious about how products work beneath the surface and enjoy understanding the systems, workflows, and data models that power great user experiences. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and seek to become an expert in the products you support.
- You thrive in ambiguity and are comfortable operating without perfectly defined requirements. You proactively identify opportunities, help clarify direction, and work cross-functionally to move initiatives forward.
- You understand that successful enterprise product design is not just about creating polished interfaces—it's about solving complex problems, simplifying difficult workflows, and helping users make better decisions.
- You are adaptable, collaborative, and open to feedback. You can work effectively with strong personalities and diverse perspectives while maintaining a focus on delivering meaningful outcomes for customers.
REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years of product design experience, with a portfolio showing projects you led from start to finish
- Proven track record of simplifying complex user flows with heavy data elements
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including confident presentation to executives and non-design stakeholders
- Ability to work autonomously: you can scope an ambiguous problem, make decisions, and keep work moving without day-to-day direction
- Comfort in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment: you balance speed and quality well, and stay steady and constructive when timelines are tight or priorities change
- Experience working with engineers in an agile environment
- Proficiency with Figma, Claude, Jira, Excel and more
- Leadership presence: you’ve informally mentored or guided other designers, and you’re ready to grow into formal people management over time
Strongly Preferred:
- Experience designing AI-powered features or workflows
- Experience in healthcare, life sciences, medical technology, or another data-intensive, high-stakes domain
- Experience at a startup or scale-up, or in another fast-moving environment
- Prior experience managing or leading designers
