Senior Software Engineer (Identity)

You will be working as a Senior Software Engineer (Identity) in our Technology Division, which is now composed of 75+ people in Lagos, Bangalore, Paris, Türkiye, and remotely across the globe.

We are building Engineering centres of excellence across multiple regions and are looking for smart, talented, driven engineers. This is a unique opportunity to be part of the core engineering team of a fast-growing fintech poised for more rapid growth in the coming years.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the core systems everything else depends on - identity verification, KYC, authentication, payments, transactions, and mobile app flows.

What You’ll Do

• Take full ownership: Lead complex technical projects end-to-end—from system design through implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance. You carry the pager for what you build.
• Scale core banking: Build and maintain reliable distributed systems backing payments, ledgers, and mobile app APIs for millions of customers across multiple markets.
• Navigate regulation: Work closely with Product, Risk, and Compliance teams—here, requirements often arrive as regulations that need to be turned into simple, secure software.
• Leverage modern AI tools: Integrate AI coding agents (like Claude Code) into your daily workflow to increase throughput and improve how quickly and safely we ship.
• Technical standards & mentorship: Contribute to architecture, engineering standards, and code reviews while mentoring other engineers.

Requirements

• Autonomy & Responsibility: You thrive with high trust and low supervision, taking full accountability for your engineering results and technical decisions.
• Product Mindset: You use the products you build and speak up when something can be better. We want engineers who propose improvements rather than wait for tickets and who care about best-in-class UX as much as a clean API.
• Backend Systems: You have 3+ years of backend engineering experience, with a solid foundation in software engineering principles, system design, CI/CD, and building and running distributed systems where reliability and security are critical.
• Identity & Risk: Experience working in Identity, KYC, fraud, authentication, or related domains, ideally within financial services.
• Language Flexibility: Experience with Go, or deep backend experience in another language with a willingness to transition to Go and explore other programming languages whenever a project calls for it.
• Structured Communication: Clear, simple, and structured communication skills—both oral and written.
• Practical AI Usage: Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and LLM-assisted development workflows to improve productivity and software delivery.
• Grow into Leadership: Interest and potential to take on people leadership and team management in the future as our operations expand.
