About Dexmate

Dexmate is building the foundation for physical AI — combining a new generation of robots with a universal Physical AI OS, making robots as easy to build and deploy as software. Today, robotics is fragmented, slow, and closed: most builders are forced to reinvent the same stack again and again, and most ideas never make it past the prototype stage. We exist to change that.

Our mission is to democratize robotics by lowering the barrier to entry, delivering a plug-and-play platform for developers, researchers, and enterprises, and cultivating an open ecosystem that accelerates the evolution of physical AI.

If you want to help shape the next layer of human capability — and believe the future of robotics should be built together, not in isolation — we'd love to build it with you.

The Role

We are looking for an Embedded Motor Controls Engineer to develop the real-time firmware that makes robot actuators precise, responsive and reliable. You will own motor-control implementation, encoder integration, servo tuning, communications and fault handling. This is a hands-on firmware and controls role with substantial time on the bench and on real actuators.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and validate field-oriented control for PMSM or BLDC motors, including current-loop timing, sensing, PWM and parameter calibration.
  • Develop torque, speed and position control, tune servo response and diagnose instability, friction, saturation and sensing issues on real hardware.
  • Integrate encoders and other feedback sensors, including alignment, calibration, timing and fault detection.
  • Build deterministic command and telemetry interfaces using the selected actuator bus, such as CAN/CAN FD or EtherCAT.
  • Implement current, voltage and thermal limits, derating and fault recovery in coordination with the drive engineer and actuator lead.
  • Develop automated bench and HIL tests with validation engineers; maintain reproducible firmware releases, diagnostics and production calibration procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong embedded C or C++ skills and experience developing real-time firmware on MCUs or DSPs.
  • Implemented field-oriented control and tuned motor or servo control loops on physical hardware, with measurable performance results.
  • Experience with encoder feedback, ADC and PWM timing, interrupts, and bare-metal or RTOS execution.
  • Comfort reading schematics and debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and hardware debuggers; ability to collaborate across firmware, power electronics and mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TI C2000, STM32, ARM Cortex-M or similar motor-control platforms.
  • Experience with EtherCAT or CAN-based servo networks, torque control, system identification or friction compensation.
  • Experience with HIL, fault injection, production calibration and Python-based test automation
