About the role

Gearset has been a data-driven SaaS company from day one, and we're looking for a Head of Data to shape the future of how we collect, model, and leverage our rapidly growing ecosystem of telemetry and customer insights.

Reporting to the SVP of GTM Strategy & Operations, you will guide a multi-disciplinary data Team to foster a thriving internal data community, drive self-serve analytics adoption, and embed data into the heart of our strategic decisions as we scale.

What’s the opportunity for a Head of Data at Gearset?

  • You’ll own Gearset’s data strategy, lead the Data Team and shape the direction for how Gearset collects, models, and utilises data across the entire business.
  • Translate an increasing wealth of product telemetry, a growing customer database, and cloud-native backend systems into actionable insights that drive better company-wide decisions.
  • Empower teams across Gearset to independently access and learn from our data, enabling them to make high-impact changes to our product and business processes.
  • Build and nurture an internal data community, ensuring key business metrics are clearly defined, consistently monitored, and embedded seamlessly into our strategic decision-making.

What you’ll achieve

  • Line manage and develop a multi-disciplinary data team spanning analytics, analytics engineering and data engineering, building business capability within the team.
  • Own the data strategy and roadmap, prioritising short and long-term objectives in partnership with stakeholders across the business.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership and non-technical stakeholders to align on priorities, embed analytics into strategic decisions, and provide self-serve tooling and support.
  • Guide the future of the Data platform, ensuring the ingestion of necessary data to provide trusted, reusable foundations for company-wide reporting.
  • Develop a data community and deliver training that teaches responsible use of data.
  • Setting and holding team accountable to software engineering best practices to govern the data platform, including version control, automated testing and CI/CD.
  • Lead objective setting and prioritisation for the data function, and report progress against key business metrics to GTM leadership.
  • Own data tooling budgets and vendor selection processes
  • Work with Legal and Compliance to ensure the data platform and its use meet data protection obligations, including UK GDPR.

About you

  • Demonstrated experience developing multi-disciplinary data teams (analytics, data science, data engineering) and delivering a company-wide data roadmap with measurable business outcomes.
  • Experience defining a Data team's approach to AI/ML-driven analytics, including evaluating where LLMs and generative AI tooling can improve data workflows or self-serve analytics.
  • Deep expertise in SQL and data modelling, coupled with a strong grasp of software engineering principles applied to data (version control, automated testing, CI/CD).
  • Strong background working with cloud analytics platforms (Redshift, BigQuery, Snowflake), transformation tools (dbt), and modern visualisation software (Omni, Looker, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience establishing data governance and data quality standards.
  • Experience driving self-serve analytics adoption and data literacy across non-technical teams.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders, define key business metrics, and translate complex data analysis into proactive solutions that drive strategic company decisions and value.

Great to haves

  • Experience working with data in a B2B SaaS company.
  • Experience with data integration tools, such as Airbyte, Fivetran or Stitch.
  • Working knowledge of privacy laws and compliance frameworks, such as GDPR, CCPA and HIPAA.
