About the role

At Naphora Games Group, we’re building more than games, we’re building a global team of ambitious, driven people who are hungry to learn, experiment, and raise the bar for the next generation of games.

We collaborate openly, move fast, and challenge ourselves every day to build better, smarter, and faster.

Our goal is to create world-class games that players around the globe love and remember. If you thrive in a high-performance, ownership-driven environment and want to make a real impact, you’ll fit right in with us.

About the role

We're hiring a Senior Backend Engineer who has already built the backend of an AI content-generation product used by real customers, and wants to do it again for games.

We are building an AI generation platform for gaming: users and studios sign up, choose what they want to create, and generate content such as images, video, audio, 2D and 3D assets and ad creatives. You will own the backend that makes this work: orchestrating multiple AI providers, running long generation jobs reliably, post-processing model outputs into a better final result, and metering usage through credits and subscriptions.

This is a fully remote role open to candidates in any location, working in alignment with our Saudi Arabia schedule (Sunday to Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM KSA time).

What you'll do

Build the generation platform

  • Design and build the backend of a client-facing AI generation product from early stages to production
  • Put multiple AI models and providers behind one clean internal interface, with routing, fallback and failover between them
  • Build post-processing layers that take raw model output and turn it into a better, production-ready result, not a one-shot response
  • Integrate external AI services, hosting platforms and third-party APIs, and handle their rate limits, latency and outages

Run AI work as real production workflows

  • Run generation as long-running, asynchronous jobs using queues or workflow engines, never inside the original HTTP request
  • Persist state per step so a failed step can be retried on its own and a job can resume after a worker dies
  • Design for idempotency, retries, cancellation, per-user and per-organisation quotas, and fair scheduling
  • Build usage metering, credits and subscription logic, and track AI provider cost per job, user and feature

Own it in production

  • Make architecture decisions that fit our real constraints: start simple, and split services only when there is a measurable reason
  • Scale each workload on the right signal (requests and latency for APIs, queue depth and backlog age for workers, provider limits for AI calls)
  • Own monitoring, logging, alerting and incident response, and lead postmortems
  • Keep releases safe through CI/CD, automated tests, infrastructure as code and backward-compatible database migrations
  • Work closely with Engineering, Product and leadership, and explain trade-offs clearly

What we're looking for

We care most about engineering judgment and proof that you have built this kind of product before, not about how many technologies you list.

  • 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
  • You have built (not only maintained) the backend of an AI generation product used by real customers: people sign up or subscribe and generate images, video, audio, 2D or 3D assets, social content or ad creatives
  • Hands-on experience integrating multiple AI providers or models in production, with fallback, retries and cost control
  • Experience with asynchronous job systems, queues or workflow engines, and per-step state for long-running work
  • Experience with credits, usage metering, subscriptions or payments in a consumer or client-facing product
  • Strong PostgreSQL and data modelling: indexing, connection pooling, zero-downtime migrations; you know when Redis is a cache and when it should never be the source of truth
  • Production experience with cloud environments, observability, CI/CD and incident response
  • Strong skills in at least one backend language, such as Python, Node.js/TypeScript or Go
  • You can explain why you chose an architecture or technology, and when you would keep things simple instead
  • Clear written and spoken English, and comfortable working remotely across time zones

Nice to have

  • Founder, founding-engineer or solo-builder experience shipping your own AI product
  • Experience with GPU inference or self-hosted models alongside third-party AI APIs
  • Media processing experience (FFmpeg, image and video pipelines, storage and delivery through a CDN)
  • Experience with games, creative tools or other high-scale consumer products

How to apply

Please include links to the AI products you have built and tell us what you personally owned in the backend. A live product, real users or customer numbers, and a short note on one hard technical decision you made will help us most. Our interviews focus on real systems you have built, architecture trade-offs and production scenarios.

If this role excites you and you’re ready to help shape the future of game development at Naphora, we encourage you to apply.
