About the role

About Niural

Niural is the AI-native global PEO for the modern workforce. Our mission is to give every growing company enterprise-grade payroll, benefits, and compliance without the enterprise overhead. Built from scratch rather than retrofitted onto legacy systems, Niural combines payroll, PEO/ASO, global EOR, benefits, and vendor payments into one intelligent platform.

Powered by EMMA, our AI coworker that executes end to end operations. Niural runs payroll and compliance across 150+ countries. Backed by a $52M Series A and $200M+ in annualized gross revenue on our PEO product alone, we're building the financial infrastructure that companies run their businesses on.

About the role

You are a builder and an owner. You’ll partner with the Product Manager to find where manual work is slowing teams down, decide what’s worth automating, and then build it. You won’t just take tickets. You’ll sit with Operations, Accounting, Sales, and Marketing, understand their workflows, and turn their problems into working systems, fast.

You will code, architect AI workflows, deploy internal tools, and leverage AI-native development tools like Claude Code to ship at a pace that would normally require a much larger team. You’ll also set the standards for how internal tools get built here and help guide AI Operator interns as the team grows.

This role is for someone with a strong engineering mindset who has shipped production systems before, can make sound architecture decisions on their own, and knows how to keep tools reliable once real teams depend on them every day.

What You Will Do

Own the Internal Tools Roadmap

  • Partner with the Product Manager to identify, scope, and prioritize automation opportunities based on time saved and business impact
  • Work directly with department leads to understand their workflows and define what “done” looks like
  • Track and report on the impact of your tools, including hours saved, error reduction, and adoption

Build Internal Tools

  • Develop and deploy full-stack internal applications (web apps, dashboards, admin panels) for Operations, Data Research, Accounting, Sales, and Marketing teams
  • Use frameworks like React, Next.js, Python/FastAPI, or similar to build tools that are fast, reliable, and easy for non-technical teammates to use
  • Own the full lifecycle: build, deploy, monitor, and iterate

Engineer AI Workflows & Agents

  • Design and build complex, multi-step AI workflows using LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI), agent frameworks (LangChain, CrewAI, n8n AI agents), and RAG pipelines
  • Build AI systems for data extraction, document processing, classification, compliance research, payroll validation, and knowledge base Q&A
  • Implement robust prompt engineering, evals, output validation, and error handling to ensure AI systems perform reliably at scale
  • Monitor model performance and cost, and make the call on when to use AI versus simpler rules-based logic

Integrate Systems & Automate Pipelines

  • Build integrations between internal systems (HRIS, payroll engines, CRMs, databases, Slack, email, spreadsheets) to eliminate manual data transfer
  • Create data pipelines that automate reporting, reconciliation, and exception handling for the Accounting and Operations teams
  • Automate contractor onboarding, invoice processing, payment workflows, and compliance data collection across multiple countries
  • Handle sensitive payroll and personal data responsibly, with proper access controls, logging, and security practices

Ship with AI-Native Development

  • Use Claude Code and other AI-assisted coding tools daily to accelerate development velocity
  • Move fast, prototype rapidly, validate with real users, and iterate
  • Set up the shared foundations (repo structure, deployment, monitoring, documentation) so tools can be maintained and extended by others

Support Sales & Marketing Systems

  • Build lead enrichment, CRM hygiene, and outbound personalization workflows
  • Create content generation and repurposing pipelines for the marketing team
  • Develop internal tools that give the Sales team faster access to prospect and market data

Mentor & Raise the Bar

  • Review code and guide AI Operator interns on architecture, best practices, and shipping quality work
  • Share what you build and teach teammates how to get the most out of AI tools

What We Are Looking For

Must-Have

  • 2-4 years of software engineering experience with strong proficiency in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • A track record of building and deploying web applications (React, Next.js, Node.js, FastAPI, or equivalent) that people use every day
  • Deep experience with AI/LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI) including prompt engineering, function calling, and structured outputs
  • Experience building multi-step AI workflows or agent-based systems that run reliably in production, not just prototypes
  • Hands-on experience with RAG architectures, vector databases (Pinecone, Weaviate, pgvector), and document processing pipelines
  • Comfort with databases (SQL, PostgreSQL) and API integrations (REST, webhooks)
  • Experience deploying, monitoring, and maintaining applications in production (Docker, cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Vercel)
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot)
  • Ability to work directly with non-technical stakeholders, translate their needs into requirements, and push back when something isn’t worth building
  • Strong bias toward shipping. You prefer a working prototype today over a perfect plan next week

Nice-to-Have

  • Familiarity with automation platforms (n8n, Make, Retool) for rapid prototyping
  • Background in payroll, HR tech, EOR/AOR, fintech, or compliance operations
  • Experience with agentic frameworks (LangGraph, CrewAI)
  • Understanding of global payroll compliance, tax regulations, or labor laws
