About the role

Bionic is the UK’s leading business-switching service, helping more than 230,000 SMEs save time, hassle and money when arranging their utilities, connectivity, insurance and funding. As we continue to grow, technology plays an increasingly important role in the experience we deliver to our customers and colleagues.

About the role

We’re looking for a Head of Technology Operations to lead the services that keep Bionic running and enable our colleagues to do their best work.

This is a broad, business-critical leadership role with responsibility for workplace technology, service management, cloud operations, infrastructure, networks, and operational resilience. You’ll shape and deliver our Technology Operations strategy, ensuring our services are reliable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective.

You’ll combine strategic influence with operational leadership. From modern workplace technology and AWS operations to resilience, supplier performance and service improvement, you’ll create a scalable TechOps function that supports Bionic’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology strategy and leadership – Define and deliver the TechOps strategy, roadmap, operating model and budget, aligned with Bionic’s business and technology priorities.
  • Service excellence – Own the performance and reliability of business-critical services, embedding effective incident, problem, change, request and service transition practices.
  • Colleague technology experience – Lead workplace technology and end-user services across onboarding, Microsoft 365, collaboration platforms, identity and access management, and colleague support.
  • Cloud operations and infrastructure – Lead AWS cloud operations, DevOps operations, observability, automation, infrastructure and networks, ensuring services remain secure, scalable and effective.
  • Operational resilience – Strengthen disaster recovery and resilience capabilities through clear recovery objectives, risk-based testing, and effective remediation.
  • Commercial management – Manage technology budgets, suppliers, contracts, licences and assets, ensuring strong performance, cost control and value for money.
  • Cross-functional partnership – Work with Engineering, Data, Security, Compliance, People and business leaders to embed operational readiness, supportability and resilience throughout the technology lifecycle.

About You

You’re an experienced Technology Operations leader who can set direction, improve services, and remain calm and decisive when challenges arise.

You bring a strong service mindset and understand how reliable, intuitive technology enables colleagues and customers. You’re comfortable influencing at senior level, using data to guide decisions and staying close enough to the operation to understand where improvement is needed.

You create clarity and accountability, develop capable teams, and build trusted relationships across technology and the wider business. You balance long-term transformation with pragmatic delivery and aren’t afraid to challenge existing ways of working.

What makes you successful

  • Strategic and delivery focused – You translate a clear vision into measurable outcomes while maintaining strong day-to-day performance.
  • Service led – You put colleague and customer experience at the heart of operational decisions.
  • Resilient under pressure – You exercise sound judgement and provide clear leadership during incidents and complex operational challenges.
  • Commercially minded – You balance reliability, risk, experience and cost when making decisions.
  • An empowering leader – You create clear expectations, develop capability, and give people ownership.
  • A trusted partner – You influence effectively, welcome constructive challenge and build alignment across teams.
  • Committed to improvement – You use insight, automation and feedback to improve services and ways of working.

Essential Experience

  • Significant leadership experience across Technology Operations, Infrastructure, Service Management or a related discipline in a cloud-first environment.
  • Experience leading mission-critical services and developing effective incident, problem, change, monitoring and resilience capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of AWS cloud operations, DevOps, observability, automation, networking, workplace technology, and identity management.
  • Experience operating enterprise platforms such as Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Amazon Connect, DocuSign or comparable business-critical technologies.
  • Commercial experience managing budgets, suppliers, contracts and technology assets.
  • A track record of building high-performing teams and delivering operational improvement.
