About the role

QED.ai (https://qed.ai) is a tech company focused on public health and food security in Sub-Saharan Africa. We build the digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence that empowers the intersection of aid and scientific inquiry, including epidemiological surveillance of HIV and malaria, and in-situ nutrient analysis of crops and soils using spectroscopy and computer vision. Our funding comes from philanthropic and governmental organizations such as the Global Fund, CDC, USAID, and the Gates Foundation.

We are looking for a medical data analyst to assist with both (a) the construction of medical data processing pipelines and (b) the analysis of national-scale healthcare data. Combine your mathematical talent with empathy for others to bring voice to the untold masses struggling to receive adequate health services across the Global South. Use numbers, technology, and visualizations to build data-driven stories that will change the world.

Basic Requirements

  • Incessant passion for public health and using data to save human life.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills, puzzle-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Fluency working with Excel spreadsheets / Google sheets, and analyzing numbers.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and composing clear and correct English.
  • English typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
  • Enthusiasm for information technology.
  • An eye for clarity in the visual presentation of data.
  • Highly preferred full-time employment of at least 40 hours per week. Promising students with exceptional skills should contribute at least 24 hrs/week.
  • Good fluency in English speaking and writing (typing > 40 wpm).
  • Critical thinking skills, expressiveness, and team-oriented attitude.
  • And you have to care about the work that you do!

Nice to haves

  • Domain expertise, experience, or energetic interest in medicine and human health.
  • Experience working with databases and writing SQL queries.
  • Some experience with monitoring and evaluation, or basic computer programming, or basic statistics.
