About the role
Re:Build Manufacturing's standard text
About Re:Build
At Re:Build, our mission is to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America. We are laying the foundation for a better future for our customers, employees, and communities by revitalizing America's manufacturing base and creating meaningful jobs across the country, including in historically deindustrialized regions.
We operate an advanced, end-to-end manufacturing platform that partners with industrial companies and innovators to take products from first concept to full-scale production in critical verticals including aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation.
The way we operate is as important as the work we do. It's guided by The Re:Build Way, 16 principles that shape how we collaborate with each other, partner with our customers and vendors, and contribute to the communities where we operate. (link to The Re:Build Way principles)
About Re:Build Applied Logix

Our senior team of electronics, software, and mechanical engineers are fluent in a broad range of applications including fuel cell control and battery management systems, precision agriculture, medical devices, automotive and transportation components, and imaging systems with machine vision and AI processing integration.
The Re:Build AppliedLogix Team provides design expertise for all facets of modern digital product development - with custom analog and digital embedded electronics; VHDL and Verilog targeting FPGAs, embedded software on bare-metal, RTOS or Linux; full-stack application development (Linux and Windows). Our mechanical design capabilities include the packaging of embedded systems, tooling design, and manufacturing process development.|
Who We Are Looking For
Re:Build is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our AppliedLogix team in Rochester, NY. We're looking for someone with 3–5 years of mechanical design experience who enjoys solving technical challenges and developing products from concept through prototyping and testing. You'll support engineering projects across electrification, energy, and mobility.
You're comfortable taking ownership of designs, applying sound engineering judgment, and collaborating to develop practical, manufacturable solutions. This is an opportunity to grow your technical expertise, work alongside experienced engineers, and begin mentoring early-career engineers and co-ops.
What You Get To Do
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from concept through prototyping, testing, and completion.
- Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks.
- Perform engineering calculations and analysis, including thermal analysis and FEA when applicable, to validate designs.
- Lead design reviews, incorporate feedback, and support risk assessments such as FMEAs.
- Solve technical challenges by evaluating design tradeoffs, researching solutions, and applying engineering standards.
- Mentor co-ops and early-career engineers, supporting their technical development and engineering judgment.
- Collaborate with engineers, vendors, and clients to coordinate requirements, resolve challenges, and support project execution, including occasional site visits.
What You Bring To The Team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 4+ years of mechanical design experience using SolidWorks and/or manufacturing process or tooling design.
- Experience working within a SolidWorks PDM environment.
- Knowledge of tolerance stack-ups, dimensional tolerancing, and assembly fit selection.
- Hands-on experience developing manufacturing processes and defining process parameters.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including engineering calculations and statistical analysis.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation, including PFDs and process work instructions.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SolidWorks FEA, thermal analysis, or CFD tools.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma, or similar quality systems.
- Experience with project management software, such as Microsoft Project.
- Exposure to AI tools that improve engineering design efficiency.
- Ability to support defense-related projects.
- Ability to travel up to 20% as needed.
