Member of Technical Staff, Compiler

About the Role

Join a healthtech team building a production compiler that turns clinical standards into structured, executable decision logic. This research-focused role combines rigorous experimentation with engineering work that supports clinical care.

What You'll Do

• Build and improve pipelines that parse clinical documents, transform guideline content, and validate executable modules.
• Design and refine a target syntax for representing clinical guideline logic.
• Evaluate open and closed models, fine-tuning approaches, and constrained decoding strategies.
• Develop benchmarks, datasets, metrics, and adversarial cases to assess clinical fidelity and recommendation correctness.
• Analyze model failures and translate findings into experiments and production system improvements.
• Build deterministic validators with static analysis, constraint solving, or formal methods to expose ambiguity, contradictions, and missing source support.
• Collaborate with clinicians and technical leadership to validate the system's outputs.

What We're Looking For

• At least 3 years of relevant research or industry experience, or final-year PhD or postdoctoral experience.
• Experience shipping ML or NLP systems to production, beyond research-only work.
• A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, machine learning, mathematics, or a related technical field.
• Production-level Python, PyTorch, and Transformers ecosystem skills, plus experience with LLM evaluation, training, or prompt engineering.
• Ability to document failed experiments and uncertainty clearly, and to validate model outputs rather than assume they are correct.
• Experience in compilers, program synthesis, formal methods, static analysis, constraint solving, SAT/SMT, or DSLs is valuable.
• Healthcare, safety-critical, or regulated-domain experience is valuable. Familiarity with FHIR or HL7 v2 is also useful.
• Comfort with ambiguity, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and in-person offsites multiple times per year.
• Must be authorized to work remotely in the United States or Canada. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range: $250,000 to $400,000 USD annually.

Remote, with the primary location in Canada. Candidates authorized to work remotely in the United States are also considered.
